Looking for something to brighten up your weekend in Victoria? We’ve got a few ideas for ya.
Let’s start with a free one, the season opener of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s Water + Pigment + Paper: Experiments in Watercolour exhibit. We’re planning to hit the free public reception from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday night. If jazz is more your thing, the gallery’s jazz series starts on Sunday. Read about both events in our post on all the latest goings on at the gallery.
If you’re feeling cerebral, check out Islands in the Sky, a talk by UVic entomologist Neville Winchester on Friday night. For more than fifteen years, Winchester has been unearthing species in the ancient forest canopy ecosystems of the Walbran valley that are found nowhere else on earth. Show up at 6:30 to snag a seat for the 7 p.m. talk at the Student Union Building at UVic. Admission is by donation and proceeds will benefit Friends of Carmanah/Walbran.
It’s the last Friday of the month so Red Hot Swing gets into high gear with a live band. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and a drop-in beginner lesson starts at 8:35 p.m. Dance the night away for just $13 ($10 for students). It all goes down at 2750 Quadra Street, just north of Hillside in Dance Victoria’s studios.
